Edward S. Burkey, 77 of Sebring passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Mr. Burkey was born in Beloit, Ohio on December 18, 1937 the son of Glenn S. and Minerva Jane (Bartholomew) Burkey. Edward served in the US Army of the 101st Airborne Unit, as a Sergeant E-5 he worked as an Iron Worker Local #17 for Keller-Hall Rigging Inc. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #47, American Legion #76, VFW #6730, Tadmor Temple, Alliance Shrine Club and Alliance Flag Unit. He loved all college sports and his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He especially enjoyed the many Canada fishing trips with his buddies.
Survivors include his longtime companion and friend of 25 years, Naomi McHenry of Sebring; two daughters Lisa Dorrell of Centreville, MD, Leslie (Rick) White of Munroe Falls, OH; eight grandchildren: Chase, Gwen, Ian, Heath, Tanner, Alexandra, Meredith and Steven; including five great-grandchildren. Ed is also survived by sister Nancy Anderson of Sebring and two half-sisters. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, John and Michael and two half-brothers.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Grow officiating. Friends may call on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hartzell Cemetery in North Benton. The family would like to give special thanks to Alliance VNA, the doctors and nursing staff at Aultman Hospital and the Sebring Fire Department. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home.
