Alexander J. Burns, 82, passed away at Crandall Medical Center on Sunday, March 5, 2023, surrounded by his family. Alex was born July 21, 1940, to the late Alexander Burns Jr. and Mary (Kozma) Burns. He was a graduate of Sebring McKinley High School where he met the love of his life Carol Jean Batyski. They were married on November 14, 1958 and spent the next 65 years building a life that would make any family envious.
Alex was a member of the Sebring McKinley Football team as a punter in High School and participated in sprint events for the track team. All the while being cheered on by his future wife Carol Batyski who was a member of the cheerleading squad.
After High School, Alex spent the next 45 years as a highly sought-after welder/pipefitter for Cardinal Plumbing and Heating. Many of the buildings in the area today Alex has work on including Royal China, Copeland Oaks/Crandall Medical Center, Alliance High School, Alliance Community Hospital and so many others. He also worked on many of the Nuclear Power Houses along the Ohio River. His skills in welding were unmatched and highly regarded within the trade. He is the GOAT of welding within the region.
Alex was always one to give back to the community. Alex was a member of Sebring Athletic Booster Club, Sebring American Legion, Sebring VFW, Sebring Masonic Lodge 626, and Alliance Tadmor Shrine. He also served on the Sebring Village Council where he championed many civic improvements and supported both the Sebring Police and Fire Departments.
Alex also enjoyed coaching the youth of Sebring during the summer baseball season. He guided a band of misfits to the Sebring West Branch Hot Stove League City Runner-up and an Ohio Hot Stove League District Title in 1973.
Survivors who mourn include his wife of 65 years Carol J. Burns (Batyski), Brother Richard Burns (Patricia), Loving Daughter Cheryl L. Drennen (Wayne), Son Mark R. Burns (Tiffany). He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his first son Brian Scott, who was one of many joys of his life.
Alex's family is where his true passion came to be. He was always ready to support his family by watching softball, baseball, soccer, football, and basketball games involving his many grandchildren throughout the years. Both Alex and Carol made it a point to support the family whether it be sports or scholastic events.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home in Sebring with Kristine Shoemaker officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday the hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.
