Alice Anna Ribbe Brough passed away at age 95 on January 16, 2009 at the Sarah Moore Home in Delaware, Ohio where she had been a resident for nearly three years. She was the widow of William J. Brough who died in 1994. They had one daughter, Patricia Brough Conrad. Alice grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Job and Bertha Boer Ribbe. She was the youngest child in a family that included several brothers. In those years the neighborhood was composed largely of the families of Dutch immigrants including the Ribbe family. Alice graduated from Prospect Park Grammar School and attended Central High School in Paterson. She was a homemaker for most of her life but worked in Paterson at Fanny Farmer Candies. On April 14, 1937 she married Bill Brough. They were married for fifty-six years. For many years they lived in Upper Saddle River and in Saddle River, New Jersey where they built two new homes. Alice worked for a time at Avon Products during those years. She was a musician and played the piano and organ. In 1989 Alice and Bill retired to Sebring, Ohio and lived at the Copeland Oaks Retirement Community. There, Alice played for chapel services, performed a lot of volunteer work and served on the altar guild for several years. In 2006 she moved to Delaware, Ohio to be near her family. Alice is survived by her daughter, Pat, and son-in-law Thomas Conrad, two grandchildren, Jill C. Smith (Tony) of Delaware, and Daniel J. Conrad (Nicole) of Powell, Ohio and six great-grandchildren including Sean, Anastasia and Tate Smith and Noelle, Christian, and Sophie Conrad. To her great-grandchildren she was lovingly known as âGG.â She is also survived by nieces and nephews to whom she was âAunt Alice.â Alice was a lifelong, very active church member attending Christian Reformed and various United Methodist churches over the years. There will be a private service of interment at Grandview Cemetery in Sebring, Ohio and a public memorial service at a date to be determined.
