Andrew Allen Safkow, 76, peacefully passed away at his home, Saturday March 3, 2012. He was born in Sebring, Ohio, May 18, 1935, to Margaret Best Dinning and John Frederick Safkow. Andy always loved his town, Sebring; and for many years had been interested in its people and its history. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoyed attending local sporting events, and watching his children and grandchildren perform their sports and music events. Travel was also important to him, especially to visit family in the U.S., Scotland and Germany. Andy was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church, a founding member of the Sebring McKinley High School Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the Sebring Historical Society, a member of the Sebring Lions Club, Sebring Chamber of Commerce and Alliance Elks Lodge. He served on Sebring City Council for the past eight years, and dedicated 20 years to the Sebring Board of Education. Andy was a driver/salesman for Coca-Cola, Frito-Lay and Herron Foods. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years Ann O’Connor Safkow, children Lynn Anne of Bellingham, Washington, Andrew Allen Jr. of New York City, William Jonathan of New York City, Edward Joseph of Lexington, South Carolina, and Jennifer Lee (James) Stull of Silver Lake, Ohio; grandchildren: Jacob, Nathan, and Leah Stull; sisters: Irene Dorothy (Stanley) Sams and Evelyn Emma “Peggy” (Samuel) Hendershot, a sister in law Sue (Schwartzhoff) Safkow and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth Findley Brown of Scotland, and brother John Frederick Safkow. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday March 7, 2012 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Sebring at 11:00AM. with Fr. Matthew Mankowski officiating. Friends may call at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The family wishes to thank the staff at Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Home Care.
