Arthur John Campbell

April 14, 1922 — December 7, 2016

Arthur John Campbell, 94 of Alliance, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 7, 2016.  Art’s life began on April 14, 1922.  He was raised in Queens Village, New York by William George Sr. and Anne Wilhelmena Kreicker Campbell.  He was preceded in death by his 3 siblings; William George Jr. Campbell, Thelma Campbell Federmack and Delores Campbell Eatz.  Art was a lifetime swimmer.  He swam competitively in high school which earned him a scholarship to Ohio State University; which he gave up to join the Navy in 1942 after the United States entered WWII.  He served in the South Pacific on P.T. Boat 248 Squadron #20 with the rank of motor mac 1st class.  Art also swam in meets for the Navy and later in the Masters for the Canton Ohio Swim Club and the Senior Olympics where he won many events.  After the war ended and he was discharged Art moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he met his devoted wife of 68 years, Helen Louise Conley Campbell, she survives.  They had three sons whom he loved deeply and spoke proudly about their achievements often:  Chris Allan Campbell and his wife Yvette of Indialantic, Florida; Glenn A. Campbell and wife Tanya of Washington DC and Scott Lee Campbell and wife Judy and their two sons, Andrew and Nathan of New Castle, Pennsylvania.  After moving to North Benton, Ohio Art became a plumber and joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 225 in Warren, Ohio which later became local 396 in Boardman, Ohio.  Art and Helen were longtime residents of North Benton where they joined the North Benton Presbyterian Church, and Art served as an elder and trustee.  Art was a jack of all trades, there seemed to be nothing he could not do or fix.  Art was always ready and willing to share his skills with friends and neighbors when they needed help with their home projects or repairs.  Art had a great sense of humor and enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke or story.  Living on 49 acres of woods and fields, he liked to call himself a tree farmer.  After Art and Helen raised their family, they eventually moved to Alliance, Ohio after they retired.
