Berkley Barker

Berkley “Berk” Barker, age 74, of Alliance, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 in the Alliance Community Hospital Emergency Room. Mr. Barker was born April 10, 1934 in Ironton, Ohio to Henry and Hattie (Kiser) Barker. Berk was the Owner/Operator of Checkpoint Inc. in Alliance retiring in 1999, he was a farmer in the Beloit area and served as a Lexington Township Trustee for 10 plus years, a charter member of the Lexington Fire Department and an honorary member of the Sebring Fire Department, he also served on the Lexington Police Department. He was a member of the Sebring Masonic Lodge F&AM # 626 and a life member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, the Alliance Shrine Club and Tadmor Shrine Temple in Akron, Berk loved to go boating, camping and fishing in his spare time. Survivors include his wife Patricia E. (Burt) Barker whom he married Sept. 19, 1954, two daughters; Diane Barker of Alliance, Sherri (Rich) Jacobs of Brimfield, two sons; Randall (Serena) Barker of Beloit and Raymond (Ronda) Barker of Kensington, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren he is also survived by a sister Lola Eddy of Alliance. Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and six brothers. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, July 18, 2008 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 2 PM to 9 PM, with the family present from 7 to 9 PM with a Masonic Service held at 6:30PM. Memorial contributions can be made in Berk’s honor to the Lexington Fireman’s Association or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th St. Erie, PA 16505.
