Betty J, Christy, 83 of Sebring passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Salem Community Hospital, from a 6 month battle with complications after heart surgery. Betty was born in Beloit, on December 31, 1925. She was the daughter of the late H. Roy and Viota (Chaney) Woods. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1943 and was a member of Pine Lake Christian Church, she worked for over 20 years at Salem Community Hospital in the Central Supply Department. Betty enjoyed traveling, bingo, word searches and she especially enjoyed all of her time with her family. Mrs. Christy is survived by her daughters; Pam Grim of Sebring, Kathy Whitacre of Myrells Inlet, SC, Karen Christy of Salem, her sons; Jim Christy of Sebring, Frank Christy of Columbus and Mike (Peggy) Christy of Sebring, 14 grandchildren: Ed (Angela) Grim, Mandy (Rob) Blake, Becky (Michael) Steen, Jennifer (Matthew) Anderson, Angela (Kevin) Mason, William C. (Denee) Whitacre III, Jim Christy, Michael (Gina) Christy, Matthew (Tricia) Christy, Daniel Christy, Jessica Tafe, and Taylor Liebhart, 20 great grandchildren: Neil Grim, Morgan Grim, Owen Grim, Mackenzie Kleinman, Lindsay Schreckengost, Beau Blake, Kerrigan Pelamati, Cody Blake, Brian Anderson, Kelsey Anderson, Kaley Anderson, Jordan Mason, Katy Mason, Jacob Mason, Chase Whitacre, Gracie Whitacre, Delaney Christy, Devin Christy, Millie Christy and Cash Christy. She is also survived by a brother Clyde Woods of Sebring, and a sister Wanda Whinnery of Salem. Besides her parents Betty was preceded in death by; her husband William “Bill” D. Christy whom she married October 11, 1947 and died September 20, 1970, a son Donnell Christy who died on Aug. 27, 1966, a brother Donnell Woods, and a sister Alma Andrews. Services will be held at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday, March 27, 2009 with Tom Palmer of Pine Lake Christian Church officiating. Friends may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Sebring. Memorial contributions can be made to Pine Lake Christian Church or the charity of the donors choice in honor of Betty.
