Carolyn Lee Wagner

April 27, 1935 — October 25, 2017

Carolyn Lee Wagner (née Fitzgerald), 82, of Boardman, Ohio, died on Wednesday, October 25th, due to complications of a hemorrhagic stroke.  Carolyn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Raymond A. Wagner, Sr., her older brother, Earl W. Fitzgerald (Louise, deceased), of East Liverpool, Ohio, and her three sons, Raymond A. Wagner, Jr. (Cathleen, deceased), of Columbiana, Ohio, Stephen Wagner (Franciene), of Boardman, Ohio, and Mark Wagner (Deborah), of Salem, Ohio.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Benjamin Wagner, of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, Stuart Wagner (Jackie), of Dublin, Ohio, Andrew Wagner (Lauren), of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, and Anne Wagner, of Akron, Ohio, as well as three great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was born on April 27, 1935, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to parents Walter E. Fitzgerald and Margaret Geneva Fitzgerald.  She attended East Liverpool public schools, graduating high school in 1953 as the fourth in her class.  On June 15 of that same year, Carolyn married Raymond A. Wagner, Sr., and began her life as a homemaker and, later, a mother.  A voracious reader, Carolyn enjoyed historical nonfiction as well as murder mysteries, and when she and her husband moved to their current residence in 2011, Carolyn was quite pleased that the new home featured a library with built-in bookshelves.  An animal lover, Carolyn adopted and rescued dozens of cats and dogs over the years, and donated regularly to Angels for Animals and similar charities.  Although Carolyn did not travel the world, she remained fully informed (and had many opinions) about national and global affairs, making sure to watch (and comment upon) multiple television news programs, daily.  Carolyn was also passionate about music, taking great pleasure in playing piano and listening to classical, jazz, and popular recordings.

Carolyn’s memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 4th at 1:00p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 291 South Broadway Avenue, Salem, Ohio, 44460.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Angels for Animals, Canfield, Ohio (http://www.angelsforanimals.org/hlpDon.asp) or Hospice of Mahoning Valley, Youngstown, Ohio (http://www.hospiceofthevalley.com/donate.html).
