Charles Dickey

June 25, 1930 — November 13, 2018

SALEM – Charles Morris Dickey of Salem, formerly of Signal, passed away November 13 at Brookdale Salem. He was 88.

Charles, known to friends as Chuck, was born at home June 25, 1930 in Signal, Ohio, the son of Ralph and Olive (Morlan) Dickey. He graduated from Lisbon David Anderson High School and was a lifelong resident of Signal.

In November 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he served as staff sergeant stationed in Montgomery, AL and Mountain Home, Idaho.

On January 5, 1951, he married Lois Kampfer, who preceded him in death June 2, 2018. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Peppel and Patricia Mercer, and two brothers, Ronald Dickey and Robert Dickey.

Charles worked 42 years for Ohio Edison as a lineman and foreman based at the Salem shop.

He was a member of the East Fairfield United Methodist Church and its 4 C’s, and choir, Signal Community Club and sang with the Lisbon Community Choir. He was a member of the Perry Lodge #185 F&AM and Order of the Eastern Star Iva Chapter. He sang with the Salem Jubilee Chorus barbershop group, where he served as treasurer for several years. Chuck was an avid Beaver Local sports fan and enjoyed watching all his grandchildren in their athletic and extra-curricular activities.



He leaves three children, Marcia (Marvin) Carroll of Lisbon; Brenda Myers of Salem; and Charles Brian (Janet) Dickey of Ellicott City, Md. He leaves 10 grandchildren, Eric and Jennifer Carroll of Lisbon and Matthew (Sarah) Carroll of Salem; Nathan (Patty), Jared and Olivia Myers of Beloit; Andrea (Dan) Zippay of North Benton, and Clayton Myers of Berlin Center; and Elizabeth and Erica Dickey of Ellicott City, Md. He also leaves 9 great-grandchildren, Stella, Everett and Neva Zippay; Abigail, Caleb and Colton Myers; Lylah Myers; and Greyson and Easton Carroll.

Per his request, there are no public calling hours. There will be private visitation for extended family 6-7 p.m. Nov. 17 at Brown Funeral Home. A celebration of life service for both Charles and Lois Dickey will be held at a later date. Friends may sign the guest register and send condolences online at www.brownfhonline.com. Arrangements were made by Brown Funeral Home, Salem.
