Clara Blasiman, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at age 90. After graduating from Louisville High School, Clara entered nursing school at Alliance City Hospital. During World War II she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp. She continued her education by attending Case Western Reserve University where she pursued her interest in obstetrics. She returned to working in OB in Alliance City Hospital and later retired from Salem City Hospital. Clara is survived by a brother John (Marylee) of Copeland Oaks and a sister, Alice Ryter of Louisville, along with four nephews and two nieces. In retirement Clara gave much of her time to volunteerism. She began at the Sheltered Workshop in Lisbon. Later she returned to her love of OB and volunteered to accompany fathers during their wife’s c-section. Always a learner, Clara moved on by helping students at Knox, Beloit, Damascus, and Goshen Center Schools. For her commitment to schools, she was awarded the 1999 JC Penney Golden Rule Education Award and also named a Ruritan Professional Person. Seventeen years as a resident of Copeland Oaks, allowed her a new avenue of service as she began to read and write for sight impaired residents at Copeland Oaks and Crandall Medical Center.
