Clyde Bernard Ross passed on to his heavenly home on Monday, August 16, 2021. Born September 20, 1931, he grew up on Kings Creek in Weirton, WV with his brother Harold and parents, attending Weir High before joining the U.S. Navy, where he was selected for, and proudly served as, an inaugural member of the Beach Jumper unit, forerunner to Navy Seals, and became a Plank Owner for that achievement. He then attended both Morris Harvey College (now Charleston University) and Southern Illinois University, where he was a starting football player, reflecting one of his loves, football. While in college he met the greatest love of his life, Babette (Babs Prosser), marrying her and enjoying 64 years together. Clyde completed his teaching degree at Bowling Green State University, coaching there, and later coached football and taught Art and Health at both United HS and Salem HS. He then went on to coach football at University of Mount Union for nineteen years, specializing in kicking, and seeing them through 12 national championships. Clyde was known as a person who was fun to be around with a strong sense of humor, profound thoughts, and a love for people. His quiet faith in his Lord was deep and strong.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Babs, two daughters: Laura (Cliff) Muhleman, Lisa (John "Fred") Sell, and two sons: John (JoAnn) Ross and Shawn (Dana) Ross; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
