Criss Owen Eckelberry

November 10, 1976 — March 27, 2024

Sebring

Criss O. Eckelberry, of Sebring a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, in Canton, Ohio, at the age of 47. Born on November 10, 1976, in Canton, Criss was a man whose life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community.

Criss's early life was filled with the love and guidance of his parents, the late Keith Eckelberry and Janice (Stephenson) Eckelberry. He grew up alongside his caring sister Antha (Steve) Roberts and his brother Jon (Courtnie) Eckelberry, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. After graduating from Fauquier County High School in Warrenton, Virginia, in 1995, Criss embarked on a career journey that would see him become a beloved figure at Walmart in Alliance, where he devoted over 25 years of service.

On June 1, 2002, Criss married the love of his life, Trisha (Vernon) Eckelberry. Their union was blessed with three wonderful daughters: Kathyrn, Jennie, and Kenna Eckelberry. Criss's role as a husband and father was the one he cherished most, and he took great pride in. The Eckelberry home was always filled with laughter, love, and the joyous chaos that comes with a close-knit family.

Criss's love extended beyond his immediate family to include his aunts Karen (Gary) Wolford, Marlene (Walter) Hutzley, Elaine (Terry) Koerner, and Susie (Dave) Compton; his uncle Dean Eckelberry; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Each held a special place in his heart, and he valued the time they spent together, creating memories that would comfort them in the years to come.

A man of faith, Criss was a current member of the Sebring Nazarene Church and took pride in being a "lifelong Nazarene." His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and solace throughout his journey. He was deeply involved with the church community and found joy in participating in activities at Canaan Acres Christian Camp, where he could share his faith and fellowship with others.

Criss's passion for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He found peace in fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and revel in the tranquility it offered. Working on the farm with his cousin Nathaniel was not just a pastime but a cherished ritual that brought Criss a sense of fulfillment and contentment.

To those who knew him, Criss was more than just a list of accomplishments; he was a beacon of kindness and generosity. His infectious laughter and warm smile could light up any room, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In honoring Criss's life, we remember a man who was not just defined by his roles but by the way he filled them-with heart, with courage, and with an unrelenting passion for the things that mattered most to him. As we reflect on his life and the happiness he brought to those around him, we take solace in knowing that Criss O. Eckelberry leaves behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten.
