Delores Brunner

April 17, 1935 — December 1, 2014

Our beloved Aunt, Delores Arlene Brunner, passed from this life on December 1, 2014 at Crandall Medical Center. Aunt Delores was born April 17, 1935 to George F. Brunner and Lera O. (Fryfogle) Brunner. Delores grew up a farm girl in Knox Township and graduated from Alliance High School. She continued her education at the main campus in Columbus of The Ohio State University in what was then styled “home economics” and education, graduating in 1960. She taught school in Ohio for 8 years, and then 2 years in Pennsylvania; the last 25 years of her career were spent in Baltimore, Maryland as a life skills educator for developmentally challenged young adults, retiring in July of 1993. She was a talented cook, baker, confectioner and seamstress. During the years that Aunt Delores taught in Pennsylvania she co-owned a small café and was its executive chef. She was active in The Ohio State Alumni Association and local OSU Alumni clubs wherever she resided and the Retired Teachers of Baltimore County. Aunt Delores was an avid fan of professional sports and a stalwart Buckeye fan; she loved her church and her Christian Faith. She began serving in missions in Southern Mississippi during the summers of her college years in the late 1950’s. Her service and volunteerism continued until the indignities of advanced age robbed her of the opportunity to serve.
She is survived by her brother Fred (Barb) Brunner of Columbus, sister-in-law Ruth Brunner of Knox Township, and Sally Vassilaros of Sebring, as well as 9 other nieces and nephews and their spouses, 20 grand nieces and nephews, and 9 great grand nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers; Ken and Dwight (Sam) Brunner, sister-in-law Marjorie “Midge” Kerr Brunner, and a niece Robyn Johnson.
A funeral service will take place at 12:00 PM on Friday December 5, 2014 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home. Friends may call the hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Bethel Cemetery in Knox Township. Memorial contributions can be made in Delores’ honor to Alliance Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 885 South Sawburg Rd.
