Donald Lane

Donald L. Lane, 82, of Beloit passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born in Damascus on July 22, 1929 the son of the late Mary M. (Lane) Cameron. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1947 and was a US Army Air Corps Veteran during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lane, along with his wife, owned and operated the Beloit Quaker City IGA grocery store and the “L” Corner Market in Damascus for over 30 years. Before the grocery business, he also worked for the Electric Furnace Company in Salem. Donald was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ where he served as deacon, elder, teacher and financial secretary. He also was a member of the Damascus Ruritan Club, a past member of Mile Branch Grange, a past member of the West Branch School Board, a Hot Stove Baseball Coach and past president of the Damascus Area Historical Society. Survivors include; his wife of 63 years Janice O. (Wyss) whom he married on February 5, 1949, three sons; Dennis (Darlene) Lane of Beloit, Richard (Mary) Lane of Mountaintop, PA, Barry (Beth) Lane of Salem; three daughters; Linda (Jim) Buttermore of Salem, Jill (Tim) Bahler of Wooster, Judy (Rex) Spaulding of Canfield; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Donald is also survived by a half brother Wayne Cameron and a half sister Mary Lee Blasiman. Besides his mother he is preceded in death by a half brother Ed Cameron. Don's service and dedication to the community will always be remembered. Don's support was unwavering, his words of encouragement timely and his wisdom always sure. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday July 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Bethel United Church of Christ with Rev. Haan A. Phelps officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday July 24, 2012 from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Beloit with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the caregivers over the years.
