Donald E. Oswalt of Sebring and formerly of Damascus passed away on March 5, 2011 at the age of 91; he lived in Copeland Oaks. Donald was born November 4, 1919 to Vernon and Hazel Oswalt in Alliance. He was a birthright member of the Alliance Friends Church and presently is a member of the Damascus Friends Church. He graduated from Alliance High School in January of 1938; he attended Ohio State University after which he served 3 ½ years in the Army Signal Corps and the Engineer Mtce. Corps during WWII; where he was a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Oswalt served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and was a Ruritan Club member; he also taught Sunday School classes and served in various other capacities at the church. Donald worked in the engineering department of Ohio Edison in Alliance for 38 years. He was a licensed Electrical Engineer in the state of Ohio; after he retired he tutored in the West Branch Elementary School and enjoyed golfing and some gardening. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Shreve) Oswalt of Copeland Oaks, whom he married on September 6, 1946. He has two children; Diane (Abraham) Bible of the Ukraine, and Gerald (Valetta) Oswalt of Rydal, Georgia. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Sarah (Bible) McVaugh, Priscilla (Bible) Gollan, Esther Bible, Samuel Bible, Mathew Bible, Elizabeth Oswalt, Kassie (Oswalt) Socks, Nathan Oswalt, Bethany (Oswalt) Kempf and Andrea (Oswalt) Latham. He is also the proud great grandfather of 19 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers Gerald and Ralph Oswalt, a step sister Audrey Manship and a grandson Jeremy Oswalt. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Damascus Friends Church with Pastor John Ryser officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 PM. Burial will take place at the Damascus Friends Cemetery. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek funeral home in Sebring.
