Donald P. Vernon, 78, of Mechanicstown passed away at his home Friday, October 2, 2009 at 4:10 PM. Donald was born in East Millsboro, PA on September 5, 1931 the son of the late George R. Vernon and Esther M. (Porter) Vernon. Don was a driver for Vernon Transportation and was a lifetime member of the Sebring VFW Post 6730. He loved to hunt and going to tractor pulls. Mr. Vernon was a US Marine Corps Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Don is survived by his wife Faye (Jenkins) Vernon whom he married on May 10, 1954, two daughters; Sherry Vernon of Alliance, Donna (Paul) Saur of Mechanicstown, a son, Clay (Shirley) Vernon of Beloit, grandson Mathew Flory-Vernon, granddaughter Casey Vernon, step grandchildren; Michael Carreon, Kristi Wright and Josh Carreon, five step great grandchildren, a sister Ann McDaniel of Beloit and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons; Bryan P. Vernon on Feb. 14, 2003 and Tom E. Vernon on Sept. 17, 2005. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Davis officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 from 4-8:00 PM. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
