Dorothy "Dotty" E. Bentfeld went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Crandall Medical Center, where she's resided since June 2005. Dotty was born in Sebring on October 13, 1934 to the late Harry J McKee and Bertha [Peg Marietta] McKee. She attended Maple Ridge and Beloit schools, and graduated from Belair High School in Toronto in 1952, where she was employed at Ohio Edison. After returning to this area, she working at Acme Grocery, where she was a member of the Union of grocery workers, and then spent many years as a department manager at the former Kings Department store in Alliance. Dotty is survived by; her five children: Peggy Hubbs, Trudy Mummert (Collage), Larry Mummert, Walter Mummert II, and Rory Mummert, all of Alliance, ten grandchildren all of Alliance: Julie Mummert, Angelique Seymour, Jamie Mummert, Jeremie Mummert, Amanda Hubbs, Scotty Hubbs, Terry Collage, Timothy Collage, Walter Mummert III, and Dawn Marie Mummert,; 16great-grandchildren (another due in April), a step brother Kenneth Grimes, and beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her first husband, Raymond L. Mummert she was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Charles K. Bentfeld, whom she married in January 1974; step-mother Evelyn McKee, nephew Johnny Salter, and grandson Gary Mummert. Her deep patriotism and strong compassion of helping our veterans lead her to join the Sebring American Legion and V.F.W. in 1957 where she served in a wide capacity of causes. She participated in many committees and services to aid the veterans, such as poppy coordinator, cancer chairperson, transportation assistance to VA appointments, and Vials-of-Life, just to name a few. She represented her post at various functions and earned the President of District 8 of Mahoning County for the Ladies Auxiliary of Post 6730, and then later transferred membership to Ellsworth post. An avid reader, Dotty had a love of learning and was supportive of educational endeavors. She also held a life long love of Sebring, where she volunteered as a tutor with the Sebring Literacy Council and treasurer of the SEEDS Outreach program. She also attended Bohecker Business College and earned her bookkeeping and accounting certificates. Dotty was a social person who enjoyed many activities and hobbies: bowling, camping, fishing, crocheting, crossword & jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, bingo, and board games. She also enjoyed watching football with JoeMontana & Jim Kelly, and playing videos games with her grandson Zakkari Mummert. She was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds & Cleveland Indians. She especially held on to a life-long dream of a cruise to Hawaii. Dotty possessed a deep religious faith in Jesus Christ. She had attended the Alliance Christian Center and the Beloit Friends Church where she volunteered as the church secretary; she then followed Pastor Jim Hollingsworth to The Community Fellowship Church in Sebring. She also participated in the annual camping retreats, which were held at the Sebring Friends campgrounds. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jim Hollingsworth officiating.
