Dorothy "Miss Josie" Venuto, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at the age of 85 in Canton, Ohio. Born on September 19, 1939, in Hydetown, Pennsylvania.
A proud 1957 graduate of Keystone High School in Knox, Pennsylvania, Miss Josie dedicated much of her life to service, starting her career as a waitress and cashier before retiring in 2018 from Midwest Sign Center as a customer service representative. Always very caring and willing to help, she brought warmth to every interaction, making her not just a valued employee, but also a cherished member of her community.
Dorothy's passions extended beyond her professional life. Fond memories are filled with her love for the outdoors, fishing, doing ceramics, enjoying bingo, playing rummy and scrabble. She had a knack for cooking and baking, often preparing meals that brought her family together around the table. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, embracing opportunities to visit anywhere anyone would take her, creating lasting memories along the way.
Family was undoubtedly her proudest accomplishment. Dorothy is survived by her loving children: daughter Elizabeth (William) Wasser, son James (Tammy) Watson, daughter Jodi Moody, and daughter Debbie (Todd) Sage. Her legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, bringing joy and pride to her every day. She is also remembered fondly by her sister Dianne Oschman, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy now rejoins her parents, Stanley "Link" Cotherman and Dorothy (Fye) Cotherman, and her beloved husband, Sam D. Venuto, who predeceased her on March 1, 2022. They shared a loving marriage after marrying on May 26, 1987. She is also reunited in spirit with her brother-in-law, Herb Oschman.
A visitation to honor Dorothy's life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with Pastor Fred Higgins officiating at Brown Funeral Home, Sebring Chapel located at 126 W Vermont Ave, Sebring, Ohio.
