Dr. Barbara âAliceâ (Walker) van der Veur, 81, of Sebring passed away at her home on Saturday, March 1, 2008. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina on January 24, 1927, the daughter of George E. & Eve Adair (Galloway) Walker. Barbara was a member of the Beth Yeshua Synagogue in Youngstown, the Messianic Congregation and the American Psychological Association. She received her Doctorate as a reading specialist in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois. Barbara retired as a Professor of Education from Ohio University in 1989. Mrs. van der Veur is survived by her husband Paul, whom she married on June 9, 1973. She is also survived by two daughters, Ann White of Winder, Georgia and Julia (Joe) Daniel of Newark, Delaware ; two sons, Mark (Edith) Morgan of Toccoa,Georgia and Paul R. (Shirley) van der Veur of Dryden, New York; a sister Dr. Pat Wannamaker of Clemson,South Carolina; many grandchildren and one great grandchild. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on March 3, 2008 with Rabi Larry Eagle officiating. A memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home.
