Elgie H. Whitla, 94, of Beloit passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Bel Air Care Center in Alliance. Elgie was born in Tyler County, West Virginia on November 8, 1916 the daughter of the late William and Amanda Virginia (Tice) Morris. Elgie was a member of the Beloit Friends Church and worked at the Cherry Hill Furniture Company; she was involved in the Beloit Historical Society, the Buckeye Trailer Club, a former Girl Scout Leader, a former member of the Sebring Order of the Eastern Star #198. She also enjoyed bowling and gardening, traveling and fishing. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Gaila (Alan) Flowers of Alliance, Pam Baum of Alliance, Patricia (Robert) Swaggard of Maximo, Ginger (Edison) Underwood of West Virginia, Jim (Toni) Whitla of East Liverpool, Larry Leasure of West Virginia and Bea Tyo of Louisville, she is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence on May 4, 2001, two brothers Millard Tice, George Tice and four sisters Helen Morris, Myrtle Leasure, Mable Leasure and Thelma G. Williamson A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00AM at Beloit Friend’s Church with Mark Reich officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 1st from 6-8pm and the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
