Elise Nadine (Steer) Buttermore, 91 of Damascus passed away at her home on Sunday, July 21, 2019. Elise was born on May 16, 1928 in Canton to the late Edwin "Ted" & Ana (Denton) Steer. She worked as a clerk at the Friends Bookstore. A lifelong area resident, Elise was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church, and a member of the United Methodist Women. At the church, she was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School, was a leader in the children's music ministry and sang in various small groups. She also was a member of the Damascus Magazine Club and loved the Cleveland Indians.Elise is survived by a daughter Paula (Kevin) Wartluft of Damascus a son Jim (Linda) Buttermore of Columbiana; grandchildren Abigail (Marty) Sweeney, Elizabeth (Duke) Reagan, Shelby (Ross) Ullman, Julie (Christopher) Sell and Drew (Amanda) Wartluft; great-grandchildren Malachi, Claire, Corinne and Colleen Sweeney, Delaney and Emery Sell, Elise and Miles Ullman and Lance Wartluft. She is also survived by her brother Edwin (Shirley) Steer. Besides her parents, Elise was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Paul Werner Buttermore, who she married December 23, 1945 and who passed on November 15, 2018.A funeral service will be held on Thursday July 25, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Damascus United Methodist with Pastor Matt Wilson and Marty Sweeney officiating. Friends will be received two hours prior to the service from 10 am - 12 pm at the church. A private interment will take place at Damascus Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Elise's honor to Damascus United Methodist Church (Church Building Fund) 300 Valley Rd. Damascus, OH 44619.
