Elizabeth "Betty" Marie (Burton) Frankenberg

September 7, 1922 — February 18, 2016

Elizabeth Marie (Betty) Burton Frankenberg was born on September 7, 1922 to Rose and T.A. Burton. She grew up in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio and attended Mount Union College, where she joined the Tri-Delts sorority. She graduated in 1944 and taught 3rd and 4th graders in Cuyahoga Falls.

In 1945 she married Ted Frankenberg, whom she had met ten years earlier on bird-watching hikes in the hills near Oglebay, W. Va. They moved to Long Island, NY, to raise a family while Ted worked in New York City.
In 1969 she joined the PEO, becoming her chapter president.  She always cherished her many PEO sisters.

In 1974 they moved to Canton, and in 1995 to Copeland Oaks.  She lost Ted in 2000.

Betty loved to travel, bake, garden, entertain and play cards.

She was always an active member of her local Methodist Church, enjoying worship and fellowship, and leading Sunday school classes and vacation Bible school classes.  She enjoyed a serene faith in a loving God.

Betty loved people – she found friends wherever she went, and always treasured her friends.  She was always caring for people, sharing cookies or muffins, a hug or a friendly chat. She reached out especially to the lonely and hurting.

She loved young people – the neighborhood children in Ohio or New York, the Cub Scout den she mothered, the Brownie Scouts and Girl Scouts she led, the Candy Stripers she supervised at South Nassau Community Hospital, the students she taught, and especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Frankenberg, of Sebring, and a son, John Frankenberg, of Woodstown, NJ, five granddaughters, four great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
