George Whitefield Scott, 86, of Sebring passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Alliance Community Hospital. George was born in Bergholz, Ohio on March 4, 1923 the son of the late Rev. Newton S. and Beatrice (Lynn) Scott. Mr. Scott served in the US Army Infantry in the European Theater where he was a prisoner of war. George graduated from the University of Steubenville and worked as an Accountant for the Satralloy Accounting Firm in Mingo Junction. Mr. Scott is a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church in Alliance, he was a previous member of the Smithfield United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer for many years, a member and past Worshipful Master of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of the OES in Smithfield, Past Commander of the Steubenville Commandry #11, past Clerk of the Village of Smithfield, member of the Sebring American Legion, member of the Yellowcreek Chapter of the American Ex Prisoners of War and the concession manager of the Jefferson County Fair. Survivors include his wife Mary Louise (Bretell) Scott of Sebring whom he married on August 9, 1952; two sons Mark William (Ruth) Scott of Troy, OH, Bryan Robert (Sherry) Scott of Woodland Park, CO, five grandchildren; Ellen, Andy, Hannah, Tim and Emily and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Copeland Oaks in Bennett Chapel at 3:00 PM with Rev. Hoyt Wilhelm and Rev. David Parry officiating. Burial will take place in the Veteran’s Section of Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home.
