George Vernon

George K. Vernon, 64, of Beloit passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at University Hospital in Cleveland. George was born in Menallen Township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania the son of the late Kenneth and Kathyrn (Crawford) Vernon. George was a 1966 graduate of West Branch High School and was a US Army veteran; he was a 35 year member of the Beloit Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for 22 years; he also worked as a driver for the Sidley Company. Mr. Vernon enjoyed spending time working outside and loved to be with his family and friends especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 41 years Donna (Fullerton) Vernon of Beloit, whom he married on August 16, 1969, a daughter Lisa (Brian) Vernon-Dotson of Pittsburgh, PA, a son George R. (Andrea) Vernon of Salem, a son Kenneth (Julie) Vernon of Salem, a daughter Trisha (Criss) Eckelberry of Sebring. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Victoria, Abigail, Kathyrn, Joshua, Jennie, Bobby, Kerrissa and Jensen, a sister Louise Vernon of Sebring, a brother James (Cindi) Vernon of Salem, a sister Lynette (Gary) Kooken of Georgia and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Archie and Pat Williams and many others for their kindness and support. Services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 12:00 PM at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Grandview Cemetery in Sebring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8PM and the hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial contributions can be made in George’s honor to the Beloit Fire Department Association c/o Farmers Bank Rte. 62, Damascus, OH 44619. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home.
