Harold Detchon

January 21, 1917 — June 26, 2007


Harold C. ”Dutch” Detchon, age 90, formerly of Wisconsin Ave., Sebring, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June. 26, 2007, at the Great Trail Health Care Center in Minerva, Ohio. Mr. Detchon was born in North Benton, Ohio on Jan. 21, 1917 and resided in Sebring all his life. He was a retired letter carrier and a member of the Sebring Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, elder, youth leader, member of the Sunday Nighters couples group, and choir member for many years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician. He was a life-long member of the Sebring F & AM Lodge # 626, where he served as Worshipful Master, and was a member of the order of the Eastern Stars and Knights Templar. He was very active in the Cub Scouts, and the Boy Scouts. Mr. Detchon was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr Detchon was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elinor (Sally) Carlisle Detchon, his parents Herbert A. and Ohno Jackson Detchon, and his sister Wilma Detchon Daniels. Mr. Detchon is survived by his son, Joel Carlisle Detchon and his wife, Peggy , of Kokomo, Indiana; his daughter, Merry Beth Taus ch and her husband, Jerry, of Salem, Ohio; his daughter, Zono Jane Howard and her husband, Mike, of London Kentucky and his brother, Herbert J. Detchon, of Florida. Mr. Detchon is also survived by his 7 grandchildren and 11 great children. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday June 29, 2007 at the Sebring Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Christine Ziem officiating. Visitation will be at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM., with a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home. Friends may sign the guest register on line at www.grfuneralhome.com.
