Helen Varkonda, 83, of Sebring passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Alliance Community Hospital. Helen was born in Alliance on April 19, 1927 the daughter of the late John and Julia (Vargo) Galfi; she was a graduate of Alliance High School, worked at Queenâs China Company and was a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Alliance. Mrs. Varkonda was proud of and enjoyed sharing her Hungarian heritage with her family and friends through her cooking, sewing and crafts. Survivors include her daughter Serena (Randy) Barker of Beloit, her two grandchildren Mallory and Matthew Barker also of Beloit. She is also survived by a sister Julie (Elton) Moser of Alliance, nieces Gail Craven, Sharon Daley, great nieces Missy Craven and Chrissie Hengle and two nephews Nathan Moser and Greg Galfi. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Varkonda in November 1976, a sister Mary Krachenburg and two brothers; John and Andy Galfi. A Private Family Service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Rev. Megan Elliott officiating. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
