James Greenawalt

James H. Greenawalt, 89 of Sebring passed away at Alliance Community Hospital on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Mr. Greenawalt was born in Beloit on September 21, 1924 the son of the late Ben and Alice (Cracknell) Greenawalt. Jim was a US Army Air Corps Pilot serving as a Lieutenant, and worked at GEM Clay and retired after 25 years from American Steel Foundry as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a member of the Sebring United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee for 20 years; a member of the North Georgetown American Legion, the Homeworth Masonic Lodge #499 and the Good Sam Club of Ohio. Jim enjoyed flying and woodcarving but especially spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Ramona L. (Stephenson) Greenawalt whom he married on October 5, 1947 (and celebrated by bringing her red roses every year on their anniversary) of Sebring, two children; Deborah (Carl Mahoney) Berens of Berea and Thomas H. (Jean) Greenawalt of Palm Harbor, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Richard (Sheila) Steel of North Olmstead, OH, Jennifer (George) Jacobs of Parma, OH, Jen Rotsinger of St. Petersburg, FL, six great grandchildren; Erika Losse, Brandon Losse, Brooke Jacobs, and Luke Jacobs all of Parma, Alexa Steel and Logan Steel of North Olmsted; a sister Ruth Denny of Beloit, a brother Sam (Judy) Greenawalt of Beloit and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert and Donald Greenawalt.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 27, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Norma Bates officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and the hour prior to the service on Wednesday. A Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s honor to the Sebring United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home. Friends may send condolences and sign the guest register online at www.grfuneralhome.com.
