Jay Dennis Crawford, 65 of Salem passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Alliance Community Hospital. Jay was born on August 30, 1946 the son of the late Walter J. and Helen Ruth “Toni” (Camp) Crawford; he was a graduate of Salem Senior High School Class of 1964 and a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the US Navy where he received the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star and Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. Jay was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem; and worked at Hunt Valve for 25 years and Quaker City Auto Parts for 2 years. Survivors include his wife of 43 years Sheryl (Meiter) Crawford whom he married on June 22, 1968 of Salem, two daughters; Jaynie (Brad) Vasko of Cambridge, OH and Alison (Edward) Smith of Delaware, OH. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and a sister Tenley (Charles) Osberg of Salem. A Funeral Service will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kimberly Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church the hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard. Friends may send condolences and sign the guest register online at www.brownfhonline.com. Memorial donations can be made in Jay’s memory to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice 885 S. Sawburg Rd. Suite 106, Alliance, OH 44601 of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund 291 South Broadway, Salem, OH 44460. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Salem.
