Jean Strimel

Jean R. (Curry) Strimel, 90, entered into the presence of her Lord on October 27 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, Ohio. She was born on June 23, 1922 in McDonald, Pa. She was the daughter of William and Inezetta Curry. Jean married the late John J. Strimel in 1941. Together they spent 48 years serving the Lord in ministry in Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches and United Methodist Churches in Pennsylvania and Florida. She graduated from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pa. Along with her ministry to the parishioners of the churches they served, Jean was involved for many years in the community as an advocate for youth. Among numerous other jobs and committees, she was appointed by Gov. Shapp of Pa. to serve on the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council. She also served as an advocate for the Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Network in Harrisburg, Pa. Upon retirement to Florida, she served as a hospital chaplain and an advocate for the elderly. Following the death of her husband, she came to Copeland Oaks in 2004 to be closer to family. Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John J. Strimel, her three sisters, and a great granddaughter, Emily Ohlinger. She is survived by two children: Joyce Leedy (Ernest) of Malvern, Oh., and John Jay Strimel (Janet) of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Pamela Ohlinger (Ray) of Canton, Oh.,and Steve Leedy (Angela) of Byron Center, MI.; eight great grandchildren, Elyse, Ian, Ty, and Ellie Ohlinger and Myra, Aaron, Ruby, and Etta Leedy; a sister in law, Jean Davis of Cortland ,and a brother in law, Tom Strimel of Canton. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel at Copeland Oaks in Sebring on Nov. 24 at 2 pm. Pastor Robert Amey will officiate.
