Jerry W. Kent, 76 of Sebring passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Salem Community Hospital. Jerry was born in Salem on May 7, 1935 the son of the late Herbert and Susan (Stowe) Kent. Mr. Kent was a graduate of Sebring McKinley High School, a US Army Veteran and worked as a field service representative at North American Phillips Co. He was an avid builder of model airplanes, a member of the Balsa Beeâs Club where he served as secretary, a member of Sebring Model Railroad Club, the American Legion and the 40 & 8. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Catherine (Diettinger)Mellish Kent of Sebring, 8 children; Michael (Kathy) Mellish of Sewickley, PA, Jerry Messenheimer of Alliance, Dennis Mellish of Sebring, Kerry (Clair) Messenheimer of Alliance, Lorie (Gordon) Applegate of Beloit, Patrick (Linda) Mellish of Salem, Bill (Penny) Kent of Sebring, and Dan (Debra Betz) Kent of Canton; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Hoopes, Lana Marconi; 2 brothers Leslie (Gayle) Kent and George (Sherri) Kent. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday March 10, 2012 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Father Matthew Mankowski officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
