Johann Mae (Slavin) Bowers

November 9, 1922 — November 24, 2018

Johann Mae Bowers, 96 of Sebring passed away on November 24, 2018 at McCrea Manor in Alliance. She was born in Sebring on November 9, 1922 the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Carrie (Mathews) Slavin. Johann was a graduate of Sebring High School and worked for many years at Elsass and Collins in Sebring and Kmart in Alliance. She was a member of the Sebring Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder. Johann was also involved in the Sebring VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed participating in various activities at the Alliance Senior Center where she was a volunteer for many years. Early married life was spent traveling with her husband Raymond to watch him pitch in Minor League Baseball. She continued to watch the Cleveland Indians whenever they were televised. For many years she was a supporter of Sebring High School Athletics. Besides being an avid reader she liked picnics, long scenic rides, dancing and jigsaw puzzles. She spent many summers visiting her family and new friends in Montana.

Survivors include her two sons; Marty (Jerrilynn) Bowers of Sebring, Joe (Arnie) Bowers of Fort Benton, MT, and a daughter Joni Dee Bowers of Columbus, MT. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Kelly (Mike) Roby of Bloomington, IN, Kerry Bowers of Sebring, Kristy (Ron) Kridler of Alliance, Travis (Caitlin) Irwin of Memphis, TN, Shari Hayden of Lolo, MT, Trapper (Julie) Bowers, Rusty (Hazel) Bowers both of Fort Benton, MT, Christopher Bowers of Portland, OR, Erin Warren of Columbus, MT and Bobbi Jo (Bert) Massic of Billings, MT, 14 great grandchildren, nieces; Peggy Zeppernick of Alliance and Shelly Moulin of Sebring. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Raymond R. Bowers in 1983, a sister Deloris Jean Slavin in 1939 and good friends Thelma May and Josie Scarpitti. Johann's family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, therapists and staff at Alliance Community Hospital and McCrea Manor for the excellent care of her during her last 55 days.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home in Sebring at 3:00 PM with Pastor Marty Radcliff officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home the hour prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Sebring Presbyterian Church 525 North 16th Street, Sebring, Ohio 44672.
