John R. Borrelli, 69, of Salem passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Circle of Care in Salem. John Was born in Salem on February, 7, 1944 the son of the late Tony and Dorothy (Rogers) Borrelli. He was a 1962 graduate of Salem High School where he excelled in basketball. He attended Bowling Green University on a basketball scholarship and returned to Salem to teach and coach basketball as an assistant coach under the late John Cabas. He later opened the Salem Sport Shop, which he operated for over 40 years. John was a member of St. Paulâs Catholic Church in Salem. He enjoyed golfing, and loved anything to do with sports especially basketball. For many years John attended local high school basketball games, the regional basketball tournaments, and the High School Basketball State Finals in Columbus. Survivors include his son Samuel Joseph Borrelli of Salem, a daughter Ann Elizabeth Borrelli of Las Vegas, NV, and his former wife, Linda Borrelli of Salem. He is also survived by a brother David (Lorna Rae) Borrelli of Salem, two sisters Toniann (Pete) Ramos of Foster City, CA, and Connie Borrelli of Salem, 1 niece, and 3 nephews. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem at 10:00 AM with Fr. Stephen Wassie officiating.
