Joyce Steer

Joyce Mae Steer, 78, of Damascus, passed away on July 23, 2013 at Salem Community Hospital. Joyce was born on May 23, 1935 in Alliance, the daughter of the late Jesse F. and Viola M. (Harmon) Davis. A lifelong area resident, she was a member of Damascus Friends Church, Damascus Garden Club, Canton Garden Center, Garden Club of Ohio, where she served as Canton District Director, and was a nationally accredited and Master Flower Show Judge. Joyce was very involved in the family business, Damascus Nursery & Floral for over 40 years; she loved gardening, flower arranging and opening her home to friends and family. She was an avid birdwatcher, accomplished seamstress and historian. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Steer of Damascus, whom she married on July 6, 1955, a son, John Steer, two daughters Judy (Craig) Wheeler, Beth (Jim) Grimm all of Damascus; seven grandchildren Sarah (Grimm) Miller, Jessica (Wheeler) Wallace, Rachel (Grimm) Jones, Nathan Steer, Julie (Wheeler) Frankhouser, Nicholas Steer, Chelsea Steer and four great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers John and Jim. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home on Friday July 26, 2013, officiated by Pastor John Ryser. Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Thursday July 25, 2013 and the hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Damascus Cemetery.
