Judson Wells Martt, 97, died on July 26, 2013 at Copeland Oaks Care Center in Sebring, Ohio. Mr. Martt was born near Zanesville, Ohio on July 6, 1916. His education started in a one room school, he graduated from Lash High School in 1934 and Ohio State University in 1940 with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is survived by his wife Ruth Francy Martt of Toronto, OH, and his children: Macy Reynolds of Yellow Springs, OH; Jane Boone of Amsterdam, OH; Judson F. Martt of Columbus, OH; Daniel Martt of Bethel Park, PA; Susy Dinger of Amsterdam, OH; William Martt of Yellow Springs, OH; Shirley Kendrick of Oklahoma City, OK; sister Margaret Thurston of Gaithersburg, MD; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, J. F. Martt, his mother Helen Minnich Martt, brother Ernest Martt of Chagrin Falls and two brothers in WW II – William (Iwo Jima) and Edward (Philippines). After graduating from OSU he worked as an engineer for Marion Power Shovel Co., Curtiss-Wright Airplane Co., and the Weirton Steel Division of National Steel from which he retired in 1981 as the Vice President of Engineering & Construction. During his retirement, Mr. Martt developed and maintained a tree farm in Amsterdam, Ohio – his home for over 40 years. He always had an avid interest in airplanes, automobiles and classical music, maintained several acres of farm crops and continued to do mechanical design work into his 80s. Mr. Martt was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masons and the American Iron and Steel Institute. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
