LaMont L. Ickes 79, of Salem died Monday afternoon at Hospice of the Valley in North Lima after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 28, 1927 in Alliance to the late Charles and Ruth (Seifert) Ickes. LaMont was a naval veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. He attended Ohio State and graduated from The Cleveland College of Mortuary Science. He moved to Salem from Mayfield Heights in 1963 where he and his wife owned and operated The Ickes Funeral Home for 42 years. He was a licensed Beautician and worked as a Tool and Die maker for 29 years at Quaker Manufacturing before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Heights Lion Heart F&AM #633, Scottish Rite, Al Koran Shrine Club, Past President of the Salem Shrine Club, Branch 18 Salem Saxon Club, a life member of VFW Post 892, the National, State and Columbiana County Funeral Directors ( Serving as Past President) Associations. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Caroline Everth of Salem, whom he married Aug. 7, 1951, a daughter Lyn L. Ickes of Wellington and one sister Donna Becker of Alliance. He was preceded in death by a brother Henry. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2006 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem with Pastor Bill Wilkins officiating at 11:00 AM.
