Leland Stoffer

Leland Laverne Stoffer, surrounded by his loving family and caretakers passed from this life to the next as the clock turned to April 2, 2009, the 73rd anniversary of his marriage to Elizabeth Grove. He died at his residence in Sterling House of Salem at the age of 95. Leland was born on July 7, 1913, in a log house near North Georgetown, Ohio the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Ruff) Stoffer.

Mr. Stoffer was well known as a hard, loyal worker. He loved to work and began his first job at the age of 13 as a farm hand for Elgie and Myrtle Sanor. He owned and operated his own farm in Homeworth from 1945-1960, was employed for 14 years at Beverly Farms Dairy and concluded his working career at Ohio Drill and Tool, retiring after 23 years at the age of 86. Leland was a member and attended Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.

Mr. Stoffer is survived by his wife of 73 years Elizabeth M. (Grove) whom he married on April 2, 1936 of Salem, four sons; John L. (Jane) Stoffer of Salem, Eugene W. (Jane) Stoffer of Alliance, Gary A. (Kay) Stoffer of Minerva and James A. (Brenda) Stoffer of Louisville, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Otis Stoffer and Gayle “Bud” Sharpnack. Besides his parents Leland was preceded in death by three sisters Thelma (Stoffer) Barnes, Lois (Sharpnack) Todor, and Letha (Sharpnack) Votaw and a grandson Ryan Stoffer.

Services will be held at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home on Saturday April 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Thomas Sawyer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 PM and the hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will take place in Hope Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Leland’s memory to; the Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church, 4306 Homeworth Rd.
