Leonard "Smitty, Dutch" Smith

"Together Again" Leonard H. Smith, also known by many as “Smitty or Dutch” 91 of Beloit passed away, Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family. Leonard was born in alliance on April 23, 1918 the son of the late Roy and Elvina (Fryfogle) Smith. Mr. Smith retired from Clark Pulley Company in Salem in 1983 as a Die Setter. Leonard was a US Army WWII Veteran serving in Company A 106th Infantry, where he received 3 bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He attended East Goshen Friends Church, was a member of the George D. Worth American Legion Post #574 in North Georgetown, a member of the Lifers Post 574, the Mile Branch Grange for over 60 years, the Goshen Center Ruritan Club for 20 years where he served as a Director fro 3 years and a member of AARP. Survivors include his three daughters Marjorie (Cliff) Hayes of Sebring, Shirley Smith of Youngstown and Wilma Yauman all of Ringgold Georgia, three grandchildren; Bonnie Hayes of Sandusky, OH, Jason (Angela) Yauman of Front Royal, VA, Michelle Yauman of Chatsworth, GA and great grandchild Julian Yauman of Front Royal. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Iva L. Smith whom he married on April 13, 1946 and passed away May 15, 2001 and four brothers Walter, Glen, ellis and Melvin Smith and a sister Grace Stanley. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Baker officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
