Marilyn Clark

d. October 5, 2013

A devoted Christian, loving mother, and talented artist/businesswoman, Marilyn Osterlund Clark died after a long illness August 15th, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, Ohio. She was 88 years old and had lived with her family in Kent, Ohio, for several decades until moving to the Copeland Oaks retirement community in Sebring in the late 1990s. Mrs. Clark was an accomplished singer and pianist and had led several youth choirs in churches wherever the family lived, leading large children’s cantatas involving all the children in the church. She also worked as a very patient elementary school music teacher. In the late 1970s, she turned her hobby and talent for needlework (having won Best in Show awards for several years in local needlework guilds) into her own needlepoint and cross-stitch business, Imaginating with Marilyn Clark. She and partner Judy Von Stein ran the business together for many years. Marilyn Clark’s quilt work and needlepoint has won many awards and her work has been displayed at several Northeastern Ohio art museums. Art and music remained great passions almost until her death. Born in 1925, Mrs. Clark grew up in Los Angeles California, and earned a music degree from Wheaton College in Illinois in 1947. Her Christian faith was the most important part of her life and she and her family were members of Kent Presbyterian Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Hutchison Clark in 2009, as well as a brother and sister. She is survived by her loving daughter, Carrie Susan Clark, and son-in-law Clay Warnick of Cincinnati. A memorial service will be held at Copeland Oaks at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 5. All friends, colleagues, and church family members are invited. Memorial gifts may be made to Young Life Christian youth camps, where she worked as a young woman. That address is Young Life Donor Relations, P.O. Box 520, Colorado Springs, CO 80901. Phone contact is 877-438-9572. Arrangements were by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home, Sebring, OH 44672. Friends may sign the guest register online at www.grfuneralhome.com.
