Mary Louise Clementson

Mary Louise Porter Clementson, 87, of Salem and formerly of Virginia, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Sterling House of Salem. Mary was born in Newport News, Virginia on July 7, 1922 the daughter of the late Capt. Carl W. and Beatrice (McKnight) Porter. She graduated from Academia Del Perpetuo Socorrow in San Juan, Puerto Rico, attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg and graduated from Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD. She was an active helper for many years in Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts and Parent Teacher Associations; she served as President of the American Society of Civil Engineers Wives in Cleveland, Ohio from 1975 to 1976 and was a member of Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, the Criglersville Extension Homemakers Club, she also belonged to the Piedmont Episcopal Church in Madison Virginia. Survivors include her son David Clementson of Salem, two daughters; Helen (Wade) Henry of Clearwater, FL and Patricia (William) Staiger of Akron, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Beatrice George of Miami, Florida. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Clementson on September 21, 2008, and two sisters Helen and Esther. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Sterling House of Salem.
