Matthew Allen Lanning, 16, of Salem, died Friday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was born July 22, 1989 in Cartersville, Georgia, a son of Gerald Keith and Gloria Jean âSissyâ (Lewis) Lanning. Matthew was a resident of the area for 14 years coming from Georgia. He was a sophomore at Salem High School and employed by Sanor Farms. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and playing basketball. He is survived by his parents, paternal grandmother Donna Lanning of Rittman, Ohio, maternal grandmother Helen Lewis of Salem; a brother Chris and a sister Christine of Salem; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Leroy Lewis and Gerald Lanning. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Salem First United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Sheely of the Solid Rock Community Church and Rev. Mac Kelly of Salem First United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
