Melvin âButchâ L. Burkey, 79, of North Benton passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Melvin was born in Deerfield on December 12, 1929 the son of the late Glenn and Edith M. (James) Burkey. Butch was a member of North Benton Presbyterian Church where he served on and was involved in many committees and activities; he was also a Trustee of the church. Butch was a US Navy Veteran serving in Korean Conflict; he retired from Kuntzman Trucking in 1984 and was a member of the Teamsterâs Local #92. Melvin is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Mark) Ruffier, and two grandchildren Josh and Jon all of Sebring. He is also survived by two sisters; Margaret Hartzell of Berlin Center and Caroline Haupt of Sebring. Besides his parents Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Ann E. (Manypenny) whom he married on June 14, 1953 and died on December 31, 2001, an infant daughter Ann and his brother Benard James Burkey. Services will be held at North Benton Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tom Sawyer officiating, friends may call the half hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Fairmount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alliance VNA/Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Road, Alliance OH 44601.
