Myrtle M. Filp, age 96, of Beloit went home to be with the Lord, at 3:30 PM, Sunday April 29, 2007, at Essex II of Salem, surrounded by her family. She was born February 23, 1911 in Harrison County, Ohio to the late James W. and Mary Ellen (O’Brian) Griffith. Myrtle graduated from Goshen High School, class of ’29. She was a member of the Damascus Friends Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years. She was a cook for 18 years at the Beloit Elementary School, retiring in 1979, a former employee of her brothers’ store “The Griffith Co” in Sebring and Ostermeirs Jewelers in Sebring. She was a member of the Damascus Magazine Club, the Merry Mixers; Friends Together; she also served as Treasurer for the Damascus Cemetery trustees. Mrs. Filp is survived by two daughters Kathleen (James) Biggs of Island Heights, NJ; Marsine (David) Stratton of Salem; one son Tim (Nancy) Filp of Alliance; 3 granddaughters Lisa Maresca of Pine Beach, NJ; Brenda Filp of Loveland, Oh; Brooke Filp of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, 2 grandsons Commander Randall J. Biggs, USN, Spring Lake , NC, Tim Filp Jr. of Sebring; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband Andrew G. Filp in 1986, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Services will be held at Damascus Friends Church on Friday May 4, 2007 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. John Ryser officiating, friends may call at the church on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Damascus Friends Church or The Goshen Alumni Assoc.. Arrangements are by Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home. Friends may sign the guest register on line at www.grfuneralhome.com.
