Otis R. Stoffer, 100, of North Georgetown passed away at Salem Community Hospital on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Born September 13, 1911, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Ruff) and John Stoffer. Mr. Stoffer a life long resident of North Georgetown and at the time of his death the oldest living graduate of Goshen High School in the class of 1929 he also attended Mt. Union College. He and his wife founded and operated Stoffer’s Farm Market for 40 years, the market still in business today, is operated by his son Dale. In addition to part time farming, Mr. Stoffer worked at various factories including Mullins Mfg. in Salem, American Steel Foundry in Alliance and the Ford Motor Company in Canton where he retired as a production general foreman after 22 years of service; he was a life member of the First Brethren Church in North Georgetown where he served in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent and Church Moderator. In the course of operating the Farm Market he had the opportunity to employ many young people of the area; he counted among the most satisfying moments of his life was seeing them grow up to become successful men and women. Survivors include his two sons Richard (Shirley) Stoffer and Dale (Patty) Stoffer both of North Georgetown, grandchildren Richard W. (Connie) Stoffer and Shawnda (Troy) Uphold, great grandchildren Olivia, Chase and Benjamin Stoffer and Lleyton Uphold. He is also survived by a brother Gail “Bud” Sharpnack of North Georgetown and a brother in law Wesley Todor. Besides his parents and step father Alfred Sharpnack he was preceded in death by his wife Alma (Ray) Stoffer in October 2000, three sisters Letha Votaw, Lois Todor, Thelma Barnes and a brother Leland Stoffer. Services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First Brethren Church in North Georgetown with pastor Ron Walters officiating. Friends may call at Gednetz-Ruzek funeral home on Thursday from 2-8PM with the family present from 6-8PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will take place in North Georgetown Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Otis’ name to the First Brethren Church in North Georgetown.
