Ray Sanor

October 21, 1923 — August 26, 2014


Ray E. Sanor, 90, lifelong resident of the area, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Freeburg, Ohio, October 21, 1923, the son of Earl and Bessie (Stoffer) Sanor. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1942. He married Kathryn (Smith) Sanor on June 24, 1945. Ray served as a Private First Class in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific. Ray received Decorations and Citations, including Asiatic Pacific Theater, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

The couple has six children, Kenneth (Sarah) Sanor of Homeworth, Donald (Susan) Sanor of Homeworth, Nancy (Gary) Diehl of Alliance, Diane (Michael) Gross of Lakeland, Florida, Gary (Connie) Sanor of Homeworth, and Karen Cameron of Salem. The couple has 12 grandchildren: Ben Sanor, Jane (Sanor) Bolen, Chris Sanor, Greg Sanor, Stephanie Sanor, Nathan Diehl, Megan Diehl, Autumn (Diehl) Boling, Amber Diehl, Sarah Crowell, Aaron Crowell and Jarod Cameron. The couple also has 9 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, four sisters: Anna Mae Buckman, Evelyn Romigh, Alice Martig and Bernice Blair. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Floyd, and a grandson Jarod Cameron.

Ray was a farmer most of his adult life and after retiring worked at Phil’s Greenhouse for 12 years. He was a life member of American Legion Post 574 and was active in North Georgetown First Brethren Church. He bowled in numerous leagues in Alliance and Kensington. He loved gardening, traveling, playing cards, but most of all he loved food and family.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29, at 11 a.m. at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home in Sebring, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Waters officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park with military honors, provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
