Raymond J. Gorby, age 80, of Sebring, passed from this life to eternity on Monday, July 7, 2008. Born February 9, 1928 to John Grant and Agnes (Irey) Gorby, Ray always said he was âborn on Broadway in Salemâ. Ray joined the Air force in 1946 and served in Okinawa and was discharged in 1949, he is a Life Member of the Alliance VFW 1036 and the Sebring American Legion Post 76. Raymond drove for various trucking companies throughout his life including; Yankee, Roadway, Consolidated, Yellow Transit and finally retired from Central Cartage in 1992. Ray loved NASCAR and spending time in his garage restoring old cars. Survivors include his wife Vaunda L. (Moore) Gorby who he married on June 16, 1951 at the Salem Nazarene Church, two sons; Gene Ray âRaymeâ (Kim) Gorby and Randall Gregory Gorby both of Sebring, Randallâs very good friend Lynette Patterson and her daughter Rachel, a grandson Derek Ray Gorby of Sebring and two granddaughters; Brandy Sue (Roose) Moore and Randi Roose both of Akron, he is also survived by a former daughter-in-law Paula (Roose) Gorby. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a son Richard G. âRickâ Gorby on June 9, 1981 and a sister Betty Faye Gamble. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Rev. George Schreckengost officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2 PM to 9 PM, with the family present from 7 to 9 PM.
