Richard Brunie

Richard “Dick” Brunie, 85, of Sebring, passed away on December 1, 2013 peacefully with his family in the home he and several friends built. Richard was born on September 6, 1928 in Alliance, the son of the late Edward and Mabel Polen Brunie. He served in the US Army and was a plumber, a member of the Plumbers Local #396 in Youngstown working for over 20+ years at Cardinal Plumbing and Heating and also for Ellyson Plumbing in Salem. Dick graduated from Sebring High School in 1946 where he was an outstanding athlete and was a member of the Sebring Athletic Hall of Fame. He enjoyed being involved for many years coaching Hot Stove Baseball and working with the Parks Department. In 1992, Mr. Brunie became a part of the Sebring Park and Recreation Board Honor Roll in recognition of outstanding community service in the area of recreation.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nelda (Myers) Brunie, whom he married on October 7, 1950, two sons Tod (Becky) Brunie and Drew Brunie, both of Sebring and a daughter Claudia (Tarafa) Homsi of Vienna, Virginia; five grandchildren, Beth Ann (Rob) Brutcher, Kimberly (Josh) Cullen, Amy (Corey) Blaszczyk, Chris Brunie, Zane Homsi; two great grandchildren Luke Brutcher and Nate Brutcher . Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ed and a sister Marilyn.
A funeral service will be held at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home on Thursday December 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Tom Palmer. Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Wednesday December 4, 2013 and the hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
