Richard "Gene" Welch

Richard Eugene “Gene” Welch, 80, of Sebring, passed away at his home on Friday, October 19, 2012. Gene was born in Alliance on May 28, 1932, the son of the late Gordon and Catherine (Gang) Welch; he was a graduate of Sebring High School class of 1950 and known by the nickname of “Ice Water”. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service where he got to travel extensively; he was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed watching sports and golfing at the Sebring Country Club, he also liked gardening, reading and spending time with “Smarty” the cat. Survivors include his son Richard Michael Welch, a daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Brunie, sisters Joyce Krahling, Janice Ward and Joann (Harold) Dobbs and a brother Jack (Nancy) Welch. He is also survived by two grandchildren; Christopher Ryan Brunie and Tommy Robert Welch and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his Wife Delores (Higgins) Welch in March of 2010, a son Robert James Welch in 1998, a granddaughter Monica Jean Welch in 2001, and a brother Jerry Welch. Per his request Mr. Welch will be cremated. Memorial contributions can be made in Gene’s honor to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512.
