Robert W. Johnston, 88 of Alliance passed away on Saturday,, February 18, 2012 at Altercare of Alliance. Robert was born in Freedom, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1924 the son o the late Milo G. and Grace E. (Miller) Johnston. Mr. Johnston was a decorated US Army Veteran serving in WWII. He was a former member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and drove School Bus for the West Branch School System for many years. Bob was a former member of the Smith Grange, the Farm Bureau, the Millersburg Lions Club and also a life member of the Labelle, Florida VFW. He enjoyed farming in Pennsylvania, and in Ohio worked as the Ranch Manager at the Jerry Moore Farm in Atwater and later the Double D Ranch in Coshocton. After retiring from farming he enjoyed working as the Maintenance Technician for the Inn at Honey Run in Millersburg. Survivors include his former wife Gertrude E. Johnston of Sebring, his daughter Grace (Bill) Williams of Sebring, Daughter Janet (Denny) Vance of Alliance, son Robert W Johnston Jr. of Alliance, and a son Ron (Cassi) Bishop of Newton Falls. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two brothers; Jim Johnston of Texas, Harvey Johnston of Alliance and three sisters; Eliza Bostanic of Freedom, Pennsylvania, Florence Weigel of Beaver, Pennsylvania and Ruth Lipscomb of Rochester, Pennsylvania. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his step mother Ruth Johnston, an infant daughter Linda Ann, a brother Norman Johnston a sister Lillian Crawford, and his loving companion Millie Bishop. The family wishes to extend its thanks to the wonderful staff at Altercare of Alliance for the loving care given to him during his last years. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 1:00PM at Gednetz-Ruzek funeral home with Pastor Bob Amey officiating. Visitation will be held the hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Atwater Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Robert’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or Damascus United Methodist Church.
