Robert E Smith

October 4, 1935 — August 14, 2020

Beloit

Robert (Bob) E. Smith of Beloit, Ohio, 84, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was called to his eternal home on August 14, 2020. He was born October 4, 1935, in Alliance, Ohio, to Ralph and Erma (Taylor) Smith. He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Sanor of Alliance and by his wife, Marilyn (Martin) Smith and their children Cindy (Greg) Gaines of North Benton, Jeff Smith of North Benton, Beth Smith of Beloit, Jennifer (Matthew) Kauffman of Massillon, and Lisa Smith of Beloit and his nine grandchildren (Joshua, Joel, Josiah, Chaslyn, Joshua, Blake, Mason, Kariyas, Aniela) and three great grandchildren (Arhya, Noelle, Toby). He was preceded into death by his parents and his brother Roger T. Smith.

Robert attended Mount Union College from 1953 – 1954 and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1960. He worked on the family dairy jersey farm in Beloit starting as a young boy and began working as a full-time dairy farmer in 1953 until the present. Robert was a member of the North Benton Presbyterian Church his entire life where he served as a Trustee member for many years and enjoyed attending the weekly Adult Sunday School Classes. Growing up, Robert was an active member of Mahoning County 4-H and began showing dairy cows at the Canfield Fair in 1947. To this day, he enjoyed (and never missed) attending the Canfield Fair and passed on his love of the fair to his children and grandchildren.

Robert and his wife, Marilyn, have been happily married since October 2, 1960 and served as an example of a Christ-centered marriage. Robert loved his wife and family faithfully and will be missed greatly by them. A service will be held at the North Benton Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 beginning with calling hours from 11:00am – 1:00pm and a worship service to celebrate his life at 1:00pm. All are welcome to attend. In lieu flowers of flowers donations can be made to the North Benton Presbyterian Church at 19070 North Benton West Rd., North Benton, Ohio 44449. Friends and family may send condolences and sign the guest register online at www.grfuneralhome.com.
