Sidney "Pete" Rice

June 10, 1933 — June 21, 2016

Sidney “Pete” Rice, 83 of North Benton passed away from a sudden illness, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 surrounded by his family.  Pete was born in Halifax County, Virginia on June 10, 1933 the son of the late Louis Earl Rice and Mary (Dunnaway) Rice Stephenson. Before his retirement he worked for the Transue and Williams for 37 years. He spent the last 28 years wintering in Florida working as an activities director.  Pete was a member of the Boiler Makers Union.  He enjoyed fishing, walking daily with his dog Gabby, spending time with his family and friends and loved traveling with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Lucille (Gfeller) Rice whom he married on October of 1949, his children Dan (Diana) Rice of Aberdeen, Ohio, Rick (Debby) Rice of North Benton, Cindy (Dan) Dimit of Sebring; 11 grandchildren,  25 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great granddaughters.  He is also survived by four sisters Bea Hanning of Laughlin, Nevada, Doris Johnson, Margaret Drennen, and Jean Householder, all of Sebring.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one granddaughter Mary Cassandra Rice Crain, two brothers and five sisters.

A memorial service will take place at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Delaney.  Friends may call from the half hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s honor to Alliance Hospice 2461 W. State Street, Alliance, OH 44601.
